This question came up during the North Carolina Dental Society Meeting.

Which is better Valium or Versed for pedo patients. What I can tell you is that Valium is not recommended for children under 6 years of age. When I did try using Valium on Kids it was a waste of time. Virtually no affect on them or even kids up to the age of 16. Chloral Hydrate was my drug of choice until it was discontinued in 2013. Now Versed is my new favorite drug for Adults and Children. My typical dose for a child is .5mg per kg up to a maximum of 20mg. Most of my pedo patients I orally administer around 10-12 mg.I really like this medication for Adults as well. 15mg will quickly snow most adults. Be very careful it comes on quickly and they get very sedated compared to Valium or Halcion. Also the Syrup version shown in this post tastes better than mixing your own with Tylenol Elixir. The patients will actually swallow this medication.
